Hon. Kiprono Cheburet Chemitei has officially been sworn in as the Senator for Baringo County following his victory in the recently concluded by-election held to fill the seat left vacant after the death of the late Senator William Cheptumo.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on Tuesday in the Senate Chambers and was presided over by Speaker Amason Kingi, who congratulated Senator Chemitei and formally welcomed him to the House.

Elected on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, Senator Chemitei was escorted to the Chair by Senators Veronica Maina, Alexander Mundigi and Dr. Lelegwe Ltumbesi. After his introduction, he took the oath of office, pledging to obey, respect, uphold, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of Kenya.

Senators from across the political divide lauded Chemitei’s entry into the Senate, expressing confidence in his ability to serve diligently and represent the people of Baringo effectively.

Nyamira Senator Okong’o Mogeni congratulated the newly elected legislator, urging him to embrace the Senate’s unity and collaborative spirit.
“We are brothers and sisters, and I have no doubt that you will flourish as a Senator in this House,” said Mogeni.

Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot also welcomed the youthful senator, assuring him of strong support from colleagues and parliamentary staff to ease his transition.

“I have no doubt that young Senator Chemitei joins us with great potential, which will be sharpened as he interacts with colleagues, receives training, and learns from members representing diverse facets of life,” he said.

Cheruiyot added that the people of Baringo made the right decision in electing a vibrant young leader who will join others in championing the success of devolution.

Senator Chemitei now takes up the mantle of representing Baringo County, with expectations high for his contribution to oversight, legislation, and devolution.
