Chelsea shared the points with European heavyweights Barcelona in a thrilling showdown at Stamford Bridge, with both teams extending their unbeaten runs in the Champions League league phase.

Full-back Ellie Carpenter opened the scoring after 16 minutes, smashing a powerful drive into the far corner to give Chelsea a deserved early lead.

But Barcelona hit back just eight minutes later, as Ewa Pajor capitalised on a failed clearance from a corner and drilled home from close range.

Pajor had already seen an earlier effort ruled out for offside, while Chelsea also threatened through Aggie Beever-Jones during an energetic opening spell.

At the back, U.S. centre-half Naomi Girma delivered her finest performance in a Chelsea shirt, producing a string of crucial blocks to keep Barcelona’s attack in check.

Yet the hosts’ profligacy proved costly, with Wieke Kaptein striking the post and Sandy Baltimore shooting straight at goalkeeper Cata Coll.

The draw leaves both sides firmly in the mix for automatic qualification, though Chelsea can ill afford further slip-ups in their final league-phase fixtures against Roma and Wolfsburg.

With the top four of the 18-team league phase progressing directly to the quarter-finals, the bottom six eliminated, and fifth to 12th heading into the play-offs, every point matters.

After last season’s 8-2 aggregate semi-final defeat to Barcelona, Chelsea had hoped to make a statement—though they will take confidence from a much stronger showing this time around.
