Kenya’s national women’s volleyball team, the Malkia Strikers, is at the center of continental attention as they prepare for the upcoming African Women’s Volleyball Championship.
As they are firmly set on victory, the team is charting a long-term path toward the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
Kenyan Volleyball Federation President Paul Bitok says they selected players who are not only being assembled for the upcoming African championship but who will also form part of the national team setup for the next Olympic Games.
“This announcement will play a major role in giving the team a direction to follow and all of them will remain the team for Malkia Strikers until LA 2028,” Bitok said.
The team is not only defending its continental crown but also laying the foundation for Olympic qualification, with training camps focusing on fitness, tactical sharpness and mental resilience, with coaches emphasizing the importance of blending experience with youthful energy.
Team coach Geoffrey Omondi stated the team is now focused as they push for Olympic qualification, facing the challenges of several African teams pursuing the same Olympic opportunity while looking ahead to the role of the technical bench that will play as the team moves into competition.
Their pursuit of LA 2028 resonates across the country, showcasing their resilience and women’s empowerment in sports, dreaming bigger and proving that Kenyan women can compete at international global sport.
