Kenya is seeking to deepen its engagement with global financial institutions as it looks to strengthen access to international capital markets, attract foreign investment and support its broader economic growth agenda.

This follows a meeting between Treasury Principal Secretary Dr Chris Kiptoo and Mr Ernesto Torres Cantú, Citi’s Head of International and a member of Citigroup’s Executive Management Team, who is visiting Kenya.

The discussions focused on Kenya’s partnership with Citi, including the institution’s support in the management of the country’s Eurobond portfolio and access to international capital markets.

Dr Kiptoo said the government remains committed to strengthening strategic partnerships with global financial institutions to mobilise investment and accelerate economic growth.

“Kenya remains committed to deepening strategic partnerships with global financial institutions to mobilise investment, support enterprise, attract foreign direct investment and accelerate the country’s economic growth and development agenda,” said Dr Kiptoo.

The Treasury PS noted that such partnerships are critical in supporting enterprise, unlocking investment opportunities and attracting foreign direct investment into the country.

The engagement comes as Kenya continues to pursue diverse financing options to support its development priorities and strengthen its position in international financial markets.

Torres Cantú was accompanied by Citibank Kenya CEO Martin Mugambi and Onesmus Mwangolo, Corporate Bank Head for Kenya and International.

The meeting signals continued efforts by the National Treasury to strengthen ties with international financial partners as Kenya seeks to unlock more investment and financing opportunities for its development agenda.
