National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has called on law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the recent spate of abductions and killings in the country.

Speaking on the matter, Wetang’ula urged the Inspector General of Police (IG), the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), and other internal security agencies to get to the root of the alarming trend.

"We want the relevant authorities to investigate and uncover who is behind these kidnappings, where victims later turn up dead," Wetang’ula stated. "The police have denied involvement, so we need to know who these criminal elements are that are unlawfully arresting people and causing their disappearance."

The Speaker warned against a return to past incidents where bodies were discovered in places like River Yala, stressing that the Kenya Kwanza government had pledged to uphold human rights.

"I appeal to the IG, DCI, and DPP to conduct swift and comprehensive investigations to put an end to this disturbing trend, which is tarnishing our country’s reputation," he added.

His remarks come amid growing public concern over unexplained disappearances, with human rights groups calling for accountability. The government is yet to issue an official statement on recent cases, but Wetang’ula’s call adds pressure on security agencies to act.
