The Democratic Action Party of Kenya has dismissed as fake a letter circulating on social media purporting that its party leader Eugene Wamalwa had been kicked out of his position.
The forged document, which went viral on social media platforms, claimed that the party’s NEC had an emergency meeting and voted to kick Wamalwa out.
However, DAP-K has termed the letter an outright fabrication, insisting that no such meeting ever took place and that the leadership of the party remains unchanged.
The party said the fake letter was devised to hoodwink supporters in order to cause unnecessary tension within DAP-K, claiming that Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya had been appointed the new party leader, deputized by Ayub Savula. It even included a forged signature suggesting that Seth Panyako had become acting secretary general.
The DAP-K has urged its members and supporters to ignore the letter and only rely on valid communication from the party.
The party condemned the move, terming it a deliberate attempt to stir confusion and weaken DAP-K, especially with key political activities forthcoming.
The claims were dismissed by Governor Natembeya, who pointed fingers at political rivals whom he alleged were trying to disrupt the party’s momentum particularly in view of the forthcoming Malava parliamentary election.
“This is a letter circulating among UDA members who know we are about to win the Malava seat. It is a calculated attempt to confuse our people. Ignore it completely,” Natembeya said.
He said the party was still focused and united: We are on course, and we are winning the Malava seat. Malava is united. This victory is for Seth Panyako.
