Leonard Wa Muthende, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate in the Mbeere North by-elections, has been declared the victor.
In the results announced by IEBC on the morning of Friday, November 28, Wa Muthende garnered 15,802 votes, narrowly edging out his closest challenger, DP candidate Newton Kariuki, alias Karish, who secured 15,308 votes.
Wa Muthende’s win is a big victory for Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, who were at the centre of his campaign.
On the other hand, it is a big blow to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who had banked on Karish’s win to stamp his authority in the ongoing Mt. Kenya supremacy battle.
It is worth noting that Kindiki and Gachagua exchanged salvos while campaigning for their respective candidates and with Wa Muthende’s victory, Kindiki has the last laugh.
