Betty Maina, Murang’a Women Representative has shifted her stance and publicly expressed support for Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, just days after a series of critical remarks directed at him.

Betty Maina, who, along with her husband, had been openly critical of DP Gachagua, recently took to her Facebook page to voice her discontent with his leadership approach.

In a strongly worded post, she accused the Deputy President of using coercive tactics to demand loyalty from Mt. Kenya leaders and criticized his handling of unity efforts in the region.

“The unity of Mt Kenya will not be defined by the ability of elected leaders to Praise and Worship one leader forcefully and under coercion,” she wrote, calling for a more open and honest dialogue among leaders,”she had earlier posted.

She also addressed the treatment of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, expressing regret over the disrespect she felt had been shown to him.

“If there is anyone who has disrespected and insulted the former President, it is the Current Deputy President,” Maina stated, citing the raid on Kenyatta’s farm and the insults allegedly hurled at him during the swearing-in of President William Ruto.

However, in a remarkable about-face, Maina recently posted another message on social media, indicating a change of heart.

“When the villagers unite with Tukunia and the Komerera, the President and his Deputy will go for 10 years,” she wrote, signaling her newfound alignment with the Deputy President.

She further emphasized the importance of staying in government to secure development for the people of Mt. Kenya.

“Welcome back to the Government. We must not take our people to opposition while the others are struggling to join the Government that our people struggled to bring to power.”

This sudden shift has sparked discussions among political analysts and constituents alike, as many speculate on the motivations behind her change in position.

Some view it as a strategic move to maintain political relevance, while others see it as a genuine reassessment of her earlier stance.

Political analyst Albert Kasembeli has told Tukio that Betty Maina’s reversal highlights the complex dynamics within Mt. Kenya’s political landscape as leaders navigate the delicate balance between regional unity and national alignment.

“This is politics and betty as politician was supposed to do retract and declare support for the duo for her to remain relevant in the mount Kenya political space,”he said.
