The union of Kenya National Private Security Workers Union (KNPSWU) insists that the government seizes the private security firms that ignore the operational standards and reforms set for the professionalization of the sector without delay.

While addressing the gathering in Nairobi, KNPSWU Secretary General Dr Isaac Andabwa made it known that some security firm owners are doing everything in their power to stand in the way of the implementation of the reforms that PSRA has introduced for their own benefits.

Dr. Andabwa stated that even with the reforms issued in the official journal, a minimum of 6 percent raise in salary and the establishment of a Guard Force Number for all security officers, among others the majority of the workers have not been availed their benefits.

To him, the postponement of implementation is a sabotage that deprives the welfare and professionalization of thousands of security guards in the country.

He appealed to the Ministry of Interior and the PSRA not to delay their action and ensure that full compliance was reached. Laxity in this matter, he warned, would go a long way in undoing the good work that has been done in the improvement of private security workers’ working conditions.

“The government should not let a handful of people frustrate the reforms that are aimed at safeguarding and dignifying the lives of the security officers,” Dr. Andabwa uttered, highlighting that the full implementation of the new measures would make it possible to have social accountability, job security, and discipline in the sector.
