In a powerful move to uplift and inspire the next generation, Safaricom (NSE: SCOM) successfully hosted its Coast edition of the Safaricom Hook Circle Youth Empowerment Bootcamp at the Kenya Coast National Polytechnic in Mombasa.
The transformative two-day event empowered more than 1,000 young people with crucial skills in data privacy, financial literacy, and hospitality careers.
Held on the 28th and 29th of May 2025, the youth empowerment bootcamp was part of Safaricom’s larger mission to connect Kenyan youth to meaningful opportunities. The initiative, under the Safaricom Hook platform, focused on nurturing potential in areas such as technology, culture, and entrepreneurship
“Safaricom Hook Circle aims to connect youth all over Kenya to opportunities that will propel them to succeed in their area of interest. In collaboration with our partners, we are providing opportunities to learn relevant topics in financial literacy, tech-forward upskilling, career readiness, and culture as a form of expression and income,” said Fawzia Ali, Chief Consumer Business Officer, Safaricom PLC.
The bootcamp saw participants engage in training and masterclasses in diverse fields such as hospitality, film, makeup, fashion, and design, providing them with an opportunity to explore a variety of career paths and creative industries. In addition, a graduation ceremony was held for those who completed the training, recognizing their progress and participation.
“I am truly grateful to Safaricom for gifting me a sewing machine. It will go a long way in helping me improve my sewing skills and complete my practical home assignments on time. The past two days have been incredibly insightful, as I have learned so much about financial literacy, how to budget, save, and plan for my future,” said Halua, a fashion and design student at Kenya Coast National Polytechnic.
Beyond creative industries, the event also reached over 250 boda boda and tuk tuk operators, offering practical sessions on road safety, first aid, mental health, and financial wellness showing Safaricom’s holistic approach to community impact.
The Safaricom Hook Circle Youth Empowerment Bootcamp marks its third edition, following successful events at Chuka University last year and Kenyatta University earlier this year. The initiative continues to expand, empowering thousands of young people across Kenya.
Young individuals aged 10 to 24 can join the Safaricom Hook platform via the Safaricom app or by dialing *555# to unlock more learning and career opportunities.
