Tanzanian musician Ben Pol has lashed out at media houses in the country for staying silent amidst political turmoil.

Taking to his Instagram stories, the hitmaker expressed disappointment at the lack of local coverage, questioning why Tanzanians have to depend on foreign media to know what is happening in their own country.

“Silence from the Tanzanian media during this political strike says a lot. How come we have to rely on foreign media to know what’s happening in our own country?” Ben Pol wrote.

His speech further denounced local media for focusing their attention on political campaigns and election results, ignoring the suffering of ordinary citizens.

“Our screens are full of election results, but what about the lives that are gone? You gave full coverage to the campaigns, why not to the crisis?” he added.

Ben Pol described the situation as “scary and disappointing,” adding that it’s unbelievable that this is the state of affairs in Tanzania.

The post since stirred a conversation on social media among his fans and fellow artists, airing frustrations about media censorship and lack of transparency during moments of crisis.

These comments by the singer come amid increased statements of concern from celebrities and ordinary citizens alike, regarding freedom of expression and access to truthful information during tense political moments in the country.
