The government is stepping up efforts to expand access to affordable homeownership for police officers as part of measures to improve their welfare and living conditions.
The Affordable Housing Board (AHB) held discussions with Inspector General of the National Police Service, Douglas Kanja, to strengthen collaboration on increasing police officers’ access to the Affordable Housing Programme.
The engagement focused on creating greater awareness of the programme while complementing ongoing government investments in institutional housing aimed at providing safe, dignified and affordable homes for officers and their families.
Kanja said quality housing remains an important component of police welfare, noting that improved living conditions can contribute to officers’ motivation and effective service delivery.
Principal Secretary for Housing and Urban Development Charles M. Hinga reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring police officers benefit from the affordable housing initiative.
According to the State Department for Housing, approximately 45,000 affordable housing units are expected to be ready by December, creating additional opportunities for officers to acquire homes.
The Affordable Housing Board said it will continue partnering with public institutions to expand homeownership opportunities, improve access to affordable housing and support the development of sustainable communities across Kenya.
