Former Presidential Adviser Moses Kuria has claimed he has been declared an outcast from the Kikuyu community, in what appeared to be a reaction to recent remarks by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In a statement posted on his official X account, Kuria said he had effectively been barred from participating in social, religious and cultural activities within the Kikuyu community.
“Dear Kenyans. Our King has declared me an outcast from among the Kikuyu community. That means I cannot attend any Church service there. Neither can I go to a wedding nor a funeral. Not a traditional ceremony nor a business meeting within the Kikuyu community,” Kuria wrote.
He went on to appeal to communities outside the Mt. Kenya region to receive him, saying he had nowhere else to turn.
“When I come to your community outside Kikuyu land I beg you accept me. Sina pa kuenda. God will bless you,” he added.
Although Kuria did not mention Gachagua by name, his statement came shortly after the former Deputy President made remarks that appeared to criticize political leaders from the Mt. Kenya region whom he accused of abandoning the community’s political course.
Kuria’s reference to “our King” was widely interpreted as an apparent response to Gachagua’s comments, though he did not explicitly identify him.
