Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has called for immediate and focused action to advance the women’s agenda in Kenya. He emphasized that society must fully recognize the vital roles women play in driving socio-economic progress, peace, and security. Mudavadi believes that International Women’s Day should be more than just a celebration; it should be an opportunity to reflect, renew commitments, and take real steps toward empowering women across all sectors.
Mudavadi underlined the need to support women’s leadership, particularly in peacebuilding and conflict resolution. He stressed that women’s voices must be included in the decision-making processes that shape peace efforts. For Mudavadi, International Women’s Day offers a critical moment to assess the progress made and identify areas where more attention is needed.
At the same time, local celebrations across the country highlighted the importance of women’s contributions. At Ngong Huruma Children’s Home, children honored Mama Zipporah Kamau, recognizing her as a beacon of hope and a loving mother figure. In Kitui, the National Council of Churches in Kenya (NCCK) celebrated the progress made in women’s empowerment but acknowledged that rising gender-based violence and love-related killings remain urgent issues. The call for greater women’s empowerment was also echoed at the Kericho Women’s Prison.
With the theme for 2025 International Women’s Day being “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, and Empowerment,” Mudavadi’s remarks remind us that while progress is being made, the journey toward gender equality requires ongoing collective action.
