Abdullahi Banticha Jaldesa has officially been gazetted as the new Isiolo County Assembly Speaker, taking over the position at a time when there is immense political turmoil and court proceedings in the county.

A statement issued on Wednesday confirmed Jaldesa’s election, saying he had also assumed the role of Chairperson of the County Assembly Service Board following his election on June 26. He replaces Mohamed Roba.

The change in leadership came a matter of hours after the High Court in Meru invalidated the recent impeachment of Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo for failure by the County Assembly to follow a court order suspending the process.

The court directed Speaker of the Assembly Mohamed Qoto and the Clerk to appear in person to answer charges of contempt, claiming that they had ignored a proper conservatory order.

Subsequent to that, Jaldesa’s appointment is now considered as a possible turning point for the county as it offers a chance to restart order after weeks of political tension.

Governor Guyo welcomed the new speaker and called for unity and accountability in the Assembly. “Lead with diligence and fairness. The Assembly should mirror the aspirations of Isiolo residents,” he stated.

He was optimistic that Jaldesa’s leadership would bring the county back on course through transparent and inclusive governance.
