President William Ruto has revealed that counties have received a staggering KSh4 trillion since the inception of devolution, marking what he calls a “transformative journey” in Kenya’s governance.
Speaking during the opening of the 9th Devolution Conference in Homa Bay County, Ruto declared that his administration is going all-in to “unlock the full potential of devolution,” announcing a KSh30 billion boost to the equitable share this year alone.
‘We celebrate the transformative milestones of devolution. In just 12 years, we have transferred KSh4 trillion to counties, fostering inclusivity through fair resource distribution and addressing marginalisation,’ he said.
In a fiery address, the President disclosed that his government has cleared all pending balances owed to counties, gazetted 14 long-delayed devolved functions, kickstarted the transfer of county assets, and rolled out supportive laws to strengthen local governance.
Ruto further promised to digitise all county operations, a move he says will slash wastage and supercharge efficiency. “We are fostering inclusivity, fairness, and ending marginalisation once and for all,” he said.
