The Democratic Party of Kenya has expressed solidarity with the Gen Z-led movement sweeping across the country, urging the government to listen to the concerns of young people and embrace national dialogue as a path to unity and reform.
In a public statement released on Thursday, the party reaffirmed its core values of “Umoja na Haki” (Unity and Justice), emphasizing the importance of peaceful coexistence, inclusion, and transparency in governance.
“We admire the Gen Z generation for their bravery and creativity in highlighting important issues,” said Dr. Jacob Haji, the party’s Secretary General. “We support their calls for transparency, accountability, and good governance.”
The party recognized the right of all Kenyans—especially the youth—to express their opinions and take part in shaping the nation’s future. It encouraged young people to remain engaged but urged them to do so peacefully, stressing that dialogue, not violence, is the key to lasting solutions.
In a significant proposal, the Democratic Party called for the formation of a national dialogue forum that brings together youth leaders, civil society, and political stakeholders.
The forum, the party said, should be a space for all voices to be heard and for grievances to be addressed constructively.
“We are willing to work together with the youth to ensure they have a seat at the table when decisions are made,” said Dr. Haji. “It is your responsibility to protect our country, and we urge you to remain patient and engage in peaceful dialogue.”
