Kenya’s Kibiwott Kandie, a former world half marathon record holder, has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for breaching anti-doping rules.

In a statement, the AIU confirmed, “The AIU has provisionally suspended Kibiwott Kandie (Kenya) for evading, refusing, or failing to submit to sample collection.”

The 28-year-old Kandie, who set a world record of 57:32 at the 2020 Valencia Half Marathon, must now clear his name regarding the allegations.

He also won silver at the 2020 World Half Marathon Championships and claimed victories in the Prague, Istanbul, and Ras al Khaimah half marathons.

Kandie recently competed in the Kenya Defence Forces Cross Country Championships, where he clinched the senior men’s 10km race title.

His suspension brings the total number of Kenyan athletes suspended for anti-doping violations in 2025 to three.

Marathoners Brimin Miso Kipruto and Ronald Kimeli Kurgat, who won the 2024 Nairobi Standard Chartered Marathon, were also suspended after banned substances were found in their blood samples.
