A petition has been filed at the High Court seeking the removal of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Eliud Lagat from office following the murder of X influencer Albert Ojwang.

Ojwang died at Central Police Station in Nairobi after being assaulted by suspected police officers following his arrest in Homa Bay over an X post he made over Lagat.

In an application filed at the Milimani Law Courts, the petitioners, including lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, are seeking conservatory orders to bar Lagat from accessing his office, performing the duties of DIG, or accessing any facility of the National Police Service, pending investigations by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and the prosecution against those responsible for killing Ojwang.

The petitioners said Lagat, being the initial complainant in the case, should be considered a person of interest in the resulting death and that his continued presence in office poses a serious conflict of interest, which could lead to interference with investigations.
