KTN journalist Zubeidah Kananu has been re-elected as the Kenya Editors Guild (KEG) president.
In the elections held on Saturday, May 24, Zubeidah faced off with Citizen TV’s Yvonne Okwara.
Out of the 130 votes cast, Zubeidah amassed 72 against Yvonne’s 58 to be declared the winner.
She pledged to deepen member engagement and ensure all editors have a voice; strengthen institutional partnerships that protect media freedom and expand professional opportunities; enhance internal structures, accountability, and transparency within KEG; and continue advocating for the dignity, safety, and rights of all journalists.
From the elections, the KEG’s new leadership is as follows:
President – Zubeida Koome
Vice President – Francis Openda (elected unopposed)
Council Member (Academia) – Dr Julius Bosire
Council Member (Radio) – Agnes Mwangangi
Council Member, Trustee – Mbugua Ng’ang’a (elected unopposed)
