Young people applying for opportunities under the NYOTA Project have been cautioned against falling prey to fake online platforms impersonating the initiative.
In a public notice issued on Monday, NYOTA Project officials raised the alarm over the rise of fraudulent social media pages and websites targeting unsuspecting applicants, particularly those seeking business support, recognition of prior learning and on-the-job experience opportunities.
The statement emphasised that no applicant should pay for any service under the programme, stressing that all official updates will only be shared through the project’s website and verified social media accounts.
“All communication regarding applications will be sent to the phone numbers used during the application process. Official statements would also be uploaded on our website and official social media handles," the project team stated
Youths were urged to exercise caution when going through online content and not to give away any of their details to unverified pages.
“We ask all young people to stay alert and report any suspicious pages. Do not disclose personal details to these fraudulent sites,” the notice read.
For accurate information, applicants can go to the NYOTA Project office or their local sub-county youth office. They may also reach the team via the toll-free line 0800 222 221 or the team on genuine social media platforms.
"Let's get informed, stay safe, and stay tuned to official sources," the statement read.
