Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua sparked a political storm in Nyandarua County after launching a sharp attack on National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula during the requiem mass of the late Ol Kalou MP David Kiaraho.
The leaders had gathered to mourn and celebrate the life of Kiaraho when Gachagua shifted the tone of the event with remarks accusing the Speaker of engaging in partisan politics.
“Wetang’ula umekubalia Ichung’wah kuongea juu yangu, you are Speaker of the National Assembly and not a youth winger of UDA,” Gachagua said, in a direct reference to Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah.
The comments, delivered in front of mourners and senior political leaders, immediately triggered murmurs in the crowd, with some applauding the former Deputy President for what they termed as bold honesty, while others criticized the choice of venue for political exchanges.
