Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) deputy party leader Cleophas Malala has resurfaced after missing from the public eye for days.
Malala’s absence from his party leader Rigathi Gachagua’s public events had raised eyebrows, with some quarters claiming he had ditched the camp for President William Ruto, as witnessed with several Wamunyoro allies in the past month.
However, the former Kakamega senator appeared in Mombasa, where he was pictured with Gachagua, who has been holding a retreat in the coastal town with “like-minded legislators” for days.
Earlier, Gachagua had explained the absence of his deputy, saying he was sick but would soon rejoin the party activities.
“My deputy party leader, Cleophas Malala, is sick. He is a brave and courageous leader who takes a firm stand. He was in Kakamega during the Malala Super Cup, after which he developed a severe flu and requested time off to recover before rejoining our political activities. But the Ruto propaganda team must spread rumours that so-and-so has decamped,” Gachagua earlier said.
