There was a brief altercation between Attorney General Dorcas Oduor and the Law Society of Kenya lawyer Nelson Havi in court Friday during the hearing of a case in which deputy IG Gilbert Masengeli has been sentenced.
Oduor had appeared to defend Masengeli for snubbing a court summons prompting Justice Lawrence Mugambi to commit him to six months in jail for contempt of court.
Masengeli was present in court accompanied by his counterpart Kenya Police Service Eliud Lagat.
During the exchange, which saw proceedings interrupted for some minutes, Havi could be heard ordering Oduor to sit down as tempers flared in the courtroom.
"Sit down!" he said.This is after Oduor rose up and started confronting him while emphasising the need for respect for one another.
“You must respect people!” Oduor retorted as Havi exclaimed, “respect is earned”.She went on:
"We are all adults, why don’t you go out and listen to the press? It is so wrong, why do you behave like that?” she posed as National Assembly Majority leader Sylvanus Osoro who was part of the team tried to calm her down.The crux of the matter was the disappearance of three Kitengela men- Jamil Longton (42), Aslam Longton (36) and activist Bob Njagi.
They have since resurfaced.
