Ambassador of israel to Kenya, His Excellency Gideon Behar has held talks with Mr Alex Lemarkoko , the chief Conservator of Forests. Their conversation was geared towards strengthening unity in environmental conservation and forestry.

Behar’s visit focused on strengthening partnership in tech transfer, tree growing and forest conservation. The partnership also seeks to improve tree growth and survival in the ASALs region. Mr Alex shared details about the 15 Billion tree-growing campaign that seeks to increase Kenya’s tree cover by over 30 percent by 2032.

The CCF raised concern over the drought coinditions in the country. He stated that over 107 forest fires have been recorded through the Kenya Forest Service alert system. KFS has sought support from partners to expand fire surveillance in all forest ecosystens.

Ambassador Behar expressed interest in supporting the !5 Billion tree initiative stating that Israel has already expanded its forest cover through various technologies like irrigation. The country is gearing towards the broad leaved species from the fire-prone trees.

Both parties agreed to strengthen training at kenya Forest College, and facilitate knowledge exchange between forestry departments from the two countries.
