The ailing former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati is recuperating at a hospital in Nairobi.
A source intimated to this publication said Chebukati fell critically ill and was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) on Sunday, February 16.
However, on Monday, February 17, the lawyer recovered and was transferred to a general ward.
The soft-spoken Chebukati has been seriously sick with constant visits in and out of the hospital. What the former IEBC chair is ailing from is, however, private.
Before joining IEBC, Chebukati was an advocate of the High Court of Kenya with extensive experience in legal practice, specialising in corporate and commercial law.
He was appointed to chair the electoral commission in 2017 and served a full term of six years, retiring in 2023.
Chebukati presided over the 2017 and 2022 general elections.
