The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) remains Kenya’s most popular political party, according to a new survey by Trends and Insights for Africa (TIFA).

The poll places UDA ahead with 16 per cent of Kenyans identifying with the party, followed by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) at 13 per cent and the Democratic Congress Party (DCP) at 9 per cent.

Azimio la Umoja Coalition commands 5 per cent support, while Wiper Democratic Movement holds 4 per cent. Smaller shares were recorded for Kenya Kwanza Alliance (3 per cent), Jubilee Party (3 per cent), RTA (2 per cent), Ford-Kenya (1 per cent), DAP-Kenya (1 per cent) and other minor parties (2 per cent).

However, the survey reveals that UDA’s support is less than half the proportion of Kenyans who say they do not identify with any political party, which stands at 31 per cent. A further 10 per cent of respondents said they were undecided.

TIFA noted that the combined support for UDA, ODM and Ford-Kenya—parties aligned to the Kenya Kwanza administration—adds up to 30 per cent, underlining that more than two-thirds of Kenyans either support other formations or remain uncommitted.

According to the research firm, the proportion of Kenyans without party affiliation—currently four in ten—is the highest recorded since the advent of multiparty democracy in the 1990s.
