The Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli, visited Hulugho Township in Garissa County to condole with families of two victims killed in separate but closely linked incidents that have unsettled the area.

Masengeli who stood for the Inspector General of the National Police Service Douglas Kanja assured the residents that multi-agency security teams had been carrying out operations consistently in order to find and detain the people who had killed Boma Location Chief Abdifatah Ghani and Hulugho Primary School teacher Peter Musili.

After the meeting, the Deputy Inspector General gave the family of the chief who was killed tokens of sympathy and informed them that the National Police Service would offer them any assistance they needed.

Subsequently, he attended a gathering of teachers and students at Hulugho Primary School where he denounced the murder of the teacher, and also told the students about the government’s pledge to safeguard educational institutions and education personnel.

Masengeli had meetings with the security officers in the town, discussing the security situation there. He urged the officers to be vigilant, and actively and quickly respond to any threat that may arise.

He also recommended strengthening the aspect of intelligence gathering, better coordination between security agencies, and a strong partnership with the local community as the means to bringing back peace.

The lives of our citizens must from the very beginning be protected at all costs. We shall not cease our efforts until the culprits behind such dreadful acts are apprehended and delivered to the court of law, Masengeli, making an appeal to residents to assist them by providing any information that may help in investigations, said.

These murders have caused worries about the security situation in Hulugho and neighboring border areas. Officials have confirmed that with the help of increased patrols and operations, they are searching for a way to bring the area under control and thus make it impossible for the attackers to get away with such acts again.
