David Kodia, the ACK Bondo Diocese bishop, delivered a fiery sermon during the State Funeral Service of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at Nyayo Stadium on Friday, October 17.
Without mincing his words, Kodia called out politicians who use their positions to loot and money to intimidate or win followers.
Waxing lyrical, the man of God said such leaders do not embody Raila’s clarion call for the country’s liberation and should be condemned in the strongest words possible.
"Raila Odinga never relied on money to intimidate or win followers. He never used the power of his wallet to convince others, but instead relied on the power of persuasion. Today, many of our politicians have lost this principle, promoting a culture of handouts. If there’s anyone here at whatever level who has looted this country, you stand the chance to be condemned," said Kodia.Before his death, Kodia said he had a meeting with Raila and Mama Ida Odinga, a meeting that left him convinced that the former premier had made peace with his Maker.
“Hardly a month ago, I had breakfast with Baba and Mama Ida. I saw a man who was ready to meet God at any time — a humble servant who had made peace with God in all he did. Raila used his power effectively — to proclaim freedom, to liberate people from fear, and to inspire courage among Kenyans," the preacher continued.Monetarily, between his sermon, the crowd erupted, cheering him to continue.
