National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has said the KSh 2.6 million that President William Ruto donated to the Catholic Church in Nairobi is yet to be returned.

The Catholic Church turned down President Ruto’s donation to the Soweto Catholic Church on Sunday, November 17.

Nairobi Archbishop Philip Anyolo cited the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) stance against political donations to churches. Consequently, he promised to return the cash to Ruto.

However, over two weeks later, Ichung’wah said the church was yet to honour its promise to refund the money.

“Nasisitiza kwamba mchango ambao Rais William Ruto alitoa kwa Kanisa Katoliki bado haujarudishwa. Nilisikia wengine wakisema kuwa hiyo pesa imerudishwa,” said the Kikuyu MP.

Ichung’wah said he was waiting for the money to be returned so he could request Ruto to allocate it to other churches in need.

“Niko la list mrefu. Nitaomba rais akipata ile ameambiwa atarudishiwa anipatie tuweze kupeleka kwa wengine,” he added.
