A 14-seater matatu and a trailer crash at Zambezi area along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway has claimed two people’s lives and left several others in critical condition.
Eye-witnesses report the driver of the matatu to have taken the evasive action of not directly hitting the trailer but the oncoming cab which was allegedly going too fast. The driver, thus, lost control of the vehicle leading to the fatal crash.
Those who managed to escape the fate of death in the accident spoke about the frightening moments they had experienced with one of them narrating that the driver had very little time to respond to the fast-moving trailer. Unfortunately, the quick roll-out ended with a fatality.
The injured have been taken to Thogoto Mission Hospital, where they are being attended to for various injuries. The bodies of the killed have been transferred to the hospital’s mortuary, awaiting identification and post-mortem examination.
The incident resulted in a temporary traffic jam along the busy highway as police and other first-aid workers were attending to the crash and removing the survivors. The authorities have since issued a warning to the drivers to slow down and be vigilant especially on the Nakuru-Nairobi highway which seems to be getting more and more accidents.
Law enforcement officers are carrying out the crash investigations to figure out the exact cause of the incident.
