In a swift and coordinated operation, officers from Lunga Lunga Police Station, in collaboration with Kenya Wildlife Service officers from Nairobi and Mombasa, arrested two suspects and recovered elephant tusks valued at Sh5.8 million.
The operation, carried out after receiving a tip-off, targeted wildlife traffickers in the coastal region.
The officers intercepted a red Haojin motorcycle, registration number KMFB 681C, which was being ridden by 32-year-old Ali Salim.
His passenger, identified as 53-year-old Jackson Kitsao, was also taken into custody. Upon inspection of a sack of charcoal being transported on the motorcycle, the officers uncovered eight pieces of elephant tusks, weighing approximately 58 kilograms.
The suspects were immediately taken to Lunga Lunga Police Station, where they are currently being processed. They are expected to be arraigned in court soon to face charges related to wildlife trafficking.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has reaffirmed its commitment to working with other stakeholders to safeguard Kenya’s wildlife and continue the fight against illegal trafficking of animal products.
