The official website of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been deactivated just hours after a significant scaling down of his security detail.
The abrupt move follows the recent impeachment decision made by the Senate, raising concerns about the Deputy President’s status and the future of his office.
The scaling down of his security detail, which included a team from the Presidential Escort Unit, was seen as a clear indication of the government’s shift in stance towards the Deputy President following his impeachment.
“Office of the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya is currently under maintenance. We should be back shortly. Thank you for your patience,” website indicated.
Political analysts have interpreted the deactivation of the website and the withdrawal of security as steps taken to dismantle Gachagua’s operations as he faces serious allegations of misconduct and corruption.
Sources close to the Deputy President reported that his team is preparing a legal response to contest the Senate’s decision, although no formal statement has been issued as of yet.
