Kenya’s long-distance runner Sharon Lokedi and John Korir will successfully defend their titles at the 130th Boston marathon, taking place on Patriots’ Day on Monday, April 20, 2026.
The duo has reaffirmed their place at the pinnacle of the world Boston Marathon, assuring good performance that will captivate fans both in Boston and across the globe.
Lokedi, who first stunned the world with her Boston victory in 2025, had a brilliant race, challenging off the former world champions and seasoned marathoners to finish the line with a commanding presence.
Her consistency and resilience made her one of the most respected figures in women’s marathon running and her consistent performances in Boston have made her a global star.
The race will also feature last year’s fourth-place finisher Irine Cheptaiand four-time Olympic medallist Vivian Cheruiyot.
John Korir will also be returning to defend his title after a victory last year, following in the footsteps of his brother Wesley Korir who clocked 2:04:45 as they made history as the only siblings to win the event.
The wheelchair marathon is expected to dominated by Swiss athletes; Marcel Hug seven time Paralympic champion is aiming for an incredible fourth consecutive Boston title. In women’s race, Manuela Schar will race defending champion Susannah Scaroni for the fifth victory.
