Twelve police officers are under investigation after six suspects charged with robbery with violence dramatically escaped from the Siaya Law Courts on Monday.

The suspects — Fredrick Wafula, John Ngote, Farid Kimtai, John Okumu, Albert Otieno, and Kevin Otieno — had just appeared before the court and were being escorted back to remand when they managed to slip away from police custody.

Siaya County Police Commander Serah Koki confirmed that all officers who were on duty during the incident are currently being interrogated to determine how the suspects managed to escape under their watch.

Commander Koki said a manhunt has been launched, with multiple units deployed to track down and re-arrest the fugitives.

“We are leaving no stone unturned. The officers responsible are being questioned, and disciplinary action will follow if found culpable,” she added.

The escape has sparked concerns over lax security at the court and raised questions about the coordination between law enforcement and judicial officers. Authorities are urging the public to report any information that could lead to the capture of the suspects.
