The Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) in Trans Nzoia County has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the county leadership for its failure to implement a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed earlier in the presence of County Labor Officer, Tawfig Nalianya.
The union’s grievances center on unfulfilled promises and ongoing delays that have affected the welfare of nurses and the overall state of healthcare in the county.Edward Cheruyiot, the branch secretary of KNUN, voiced his concerns regarding the county’s lack of commitment to the MoU, emphasizing that the union had been more than patient.
According to Cheruyiot, the agreement stipulated a 60-day period for the county to address the nurses’ issues, including improved working conditions and timely promotions for qualified staff.
In addition Cheruyiot highlighted frustrations surrounding the hiring process of healthcare workers, noting that the county has been slow and inconsistent in filling crucial positions.
As the deadline approaches, Cheruyiot warned that if no action is taken by the county leadership, the nurses will have no option but to commence a strike starting on the 25th of this month.
