The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has started processing loan applications from first-time applicants, with some students now moving to the verification stage.
Applicants whose applications have reached Stage 2 have been informed that their details have been received and are currently being checked by HELB.
The verification stage comes before loan allocation, where successful applicants will be informed of the amount they qualify for before the funds are eventually disbursed.
“Applicants are urged to remain patient as the HELB team continues working to process and disburse the loans as quickly as possible,” HELB said.
How students can check their loan status
Students do not have to visit HELB offices to find out how far their applications have progressed.
Those using the HELB online portal can log into their accounts, open the dashboard and select “My Loans” to view their application status.
Applicants can also check using their mobile phones by dialling *642# and following the instructions provided.
Students who have reached Stage 2 have been advised to keep checking their status as the board continues with verification and prepares for the next stage.
Once the allocation process is completed, successful applicants will be notified of the amount awarded before their loans move to the disbursement stage.
It also has also encouraged first-time applicants who have not yet submitted their applications to do so early to avoid missing available funding.
Those who have already applied have been advised to regularly monitor their loan status through the board’s online portal, USSD service or mobile application for updates.
