Kenya has renewed its push to position itself as a key player in Africa’s digital growth, with the government calling for stronger partnerships, investment in technology infrastructure, and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence.

ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo spoke in Nairobi during the opening of a high-level Africa-Europe digital cooperation meeting held alongside the Africa Forward Summit.

The forum was held to deliberate on the future of artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, and international cooperation in the field of technology.

Kabogo stated that Africa is not standing by as an observer anymore as far as technological progress is concerned since the continent now needs to concentrate on creating trusted digital systems, developing indigenous talent, conducting research, and ensuring data protection.

In addition, African nations need to actively participate in setting global technology policies rather than simply importing already existing systems.

The CS further noted that Kenya has continued to roll out its fiber network while simultaneously boosting digital public infrastructure and facilitating digital public service delivery.

According to Kabogo, such initiatives have been made with the goal of making Kenya a regional center for innovation, cloud computing, and digital services.

In addition, he commended entities such as the Africa-Europe Foundation and Digital Africa for working hand-in-hand with the Kenyan government towards promoting digitalization and international cooperation in technology.

The deliberations taking place in the forum occur amid the ongoing trend among many African countries to embrace AI and digital tools to enhance service delivery, job creation, and economic growth.
