The government has announced that the Witeithie Modern Market Complex in Juja Sub-county, Kiambu County is nearing completion, with the facility expected to transform trade for thousands of small-scale traders operating along the busy Thika Superhighway.

According to Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo, the multi-level market complex is designed to accommodate more than 4,000 traders currently conducting business in open-air spaces.

The modern facility will feature organised stalls and shops, cold storage units for perishable goods, and integrated ICT and business hubs aimed at supporting digital commerce and improving business efficiency.

The market will also include improved drainage systems, sanitation facilities, quality ablution blocks, a food court, a crèche and a rooftop recreational area to enhance the working environment for traders and visitors.

Omollo noted that the project has already created employment opportunities during the construction phase and is expected to unlock more economic benefits once operational.

He said the market is expected to boost incomes for traders, reduce post-harvest losses and stimulate local enterprise along the major economic corridor.

The PS added that the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration has played a key role in coordinating implementation at the grassroots to ensure the project supports secure, organised and economically vibrant communities.
