The Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Uasin Gishu County is now 33 percent complete according to the Ministry of Sports.
The stadium, a vital sporting facility in North Rift is set to have a capacity of 15,000.
The Stadium will feature a FIFA-standards football pitch, 8-lane athletics tracks with tartan, a VVIP pavilion, changing rooms, water and power systems as well as other essential amenities that enhance the operations of a world-class sports infrastructure.
Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi said the handover is expected by the end of this year.
“This multi-use stadium whose construction in ongoing is now at 33 percent with the contractor expected to handover a complete and ready-to-use stadium by December this year” Mwangi said.
Adding; “Uasin Gishu is Kenya’s breeding ground for sporting giants. Endowed with exceptional sporting talents, this facility is designed to accelerate and promote the growth of diverse sports among them athletics, football, volleyball and rugby among others”.
The stadium adds to the list of stadia the government is getting ready for AFCON next year.
“It’s design, size and location makes the stadium a fitting facility for hosting training sessions for teams” the PS stated.
