If you’ve been waiting to collect your driving licence or vehicle number plates, there’s some good news from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
The authority has launched a new online portal that allows Kenyans to easily check the status of their applications without having to make endless visits to NTSA offices.
In a release on Tuesday, August 19, NTSA clarified that the Service Status Portal is active and can be accessed through the eCitizen portal.
You simply need to visit servicestatus.ntsa.go.ke, complete a few details, and make your application. If you are seeking information on a driving licence, you will require your ID number. For number plates, simply enter your vehicle registration number.
“Once submitted, your request will go directly to the collection centre as a complaint or follow-up,” the authority explained.
The move comes after growing complaints from motorists who’ve been left in the dark about when or even where to collect their licences and plates. Some have been waiting for months without any clear feedback from NTSA.
For the majority of Kenyans, especially those in the transport sector, licence or number plate delays in processing can affect livelihoods.
NTSA says the new portal is part of ongoing efforts to speed up communication, reduce delays, and cut down on queues at their offices.
This announcement also follows an earlier NTSA directive requiring all national and county government vehicles to apply for the new digital reflective number plates.
In a notice dated June 15, the authority gave public institutions until August 29 to comply warning that any unregistered government vehicles risk being impounded during enforcement checks.
To do so, government departments must create an e-Agent account and submit an official letter through the NTSA system. The new plates are part of a wider crackdown on vehicle-related crime and misuse of government resources.
Whether you’re a private driver waiting for your smart licence or a business owner tracking number plates, you no longer need to rely on word of mouth or multiple trips to NTSA offices.
Just go to servicestatus.ntsa.go.ke, enter your details, and check where things stand.
