Apple is launching a new program that will allow customers to lease some of its products without buying them.
The plan, called Apple Upgrade, will allow users of iPhone, MacBooks, iPads and Apple Watches to make monthly payments rather than the traditional purchases.
Customers with iPhone 17 and Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 13 will be able to lease the products for either 12 or 24 months, while Macs and iPads will have a 24 to 36 months lease term.
Apple will partner with Swedish digital bank Klarna, which will reshape the way consumers interact with technology, offering flexibility, affordability and continuous access to the latest devices. It will also be available on Apple’s online store app and its retail locations in the U.S.
“We are thrilled that Apple Upgrade offers our customers, both online and in-store, a more flexible way to pay for the products they love,” Apple Online Vice President Karen Rasmussen said.
Leasing will start with a monthly price of Ksh 2,330 for an iPhone, Ksh 3, 236 for a Mac and Ksh 1,553 for an Apple Watch or iPad. At the end of the lease, users can choose to upgrade to a newer model, pay a lump sum to keep the device or return it and exit the program.
The company said its iPhone Upgrade Payments and iPhone Payments programs will be discontinued, adding that customers will be able to lease a new device through Apple Upgrade, financing with monthly Apple Card payments.
