Kenya and Egypt are seeking to strengthen bilateral cooperation in health, with discussions focusing on Universal Health Coverage, local manufacturing, cancer care and specialist training.
Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni held talks with Egypt’s Ambassador to Kenya, His Excellency Badr Abdellaty, on expanding collaboration between the two countries.
The discussions covered vaccines and biomanufacturing, emergency health services, digital health and health security, alongside efforts to improve access to specialised medical services.
Kenya welcomed Egyptian investment, technology transfer and institutional partnerships to boost local production of medicines, diagnostics, blood products and other essential health commodities.
According to Muthoni, increased collaboration could help position Kenya as a regional hub for health manufacturing while strengthening the country’s capacity to produce critical medical supplies locally.
The two sides also agreed on the importance of enhancing existing cooperation in oncology, health research and specialist training.
Kenya proposed the establishment of a joint Kenya-Egypt technical team to accelerate implementation of the agreed areas of cooperation.
The team is expected to help translate bilateral commitments into tangible programmes, partnerships and investments, strengthening healthcare delivery and supporting the development of Kenya’s health sector.
