Detectives in Buuri East have arrested two suspects linked to a violent robbery spree, recovering an AK-47 rifle believed to have been terrorizing residents across Buuri East, Tigania West, and nearby areas.
The breakthrough came after reports of gunfire near Mungania Shopping Centre. Detectives responding swiftly discovered the suspects had attempted to rob a member of the National Police Reserve (NPR), who fired warning shots, forcing the attackers to flee and abandon their weapon.
A quick pursuit led to the discovery of the suspects’ getaway car, a Toyota Vitz, abandoned nearby. One suspect, Christian Saina Korosian, was caught fleeing the vehicle, while her accomplice, Moses Kayiok Noomeyo, was arrested while hiding in a nearby house.
Investigations linked the duo to an earlier armed robbery in Timau’s Maritati Centre, where they, dressed in jungle gear, raided an Mpesa shop, stealing 15 smartphones and injuring two people during their escape.
Police recovered jungle trousers from the suspects’ vehicle matching those seen on CCTV during the robbery. The suspects remain in custody awaiting arraignment, while detectives pursue an accomplice still at large.
