Two suspects linked to the murder of Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were are scheduled to appear before the Milimani High Court today for a mention as the case moves toward plea-taking and pre-trial proceedings.
The suspects, Allan Omondi Ogola — believed to be a former bodyguard of the slain MP — and Isaac Kuria, alias “Kush”, face murder charges in connection with the fatal shooting that occurred near the City Mortuary roundabout in Nairobi.
The court is expected to give directions on the next steps in the high-profile case, which has attracted national attention due to the political profile of the victim and the suspected involvement of individuals close to him.
Investigators have termed the killing as premeditated and have indicated that it involved multiple players. The motive behind the assassination is still under investigation.
Ogola and Kuria were earlier subjected to mandatory mental assessments at Mathari Hospital to determine their fitness to stand trial. Both were declared fit and have since been held at Kamiti Maximum Prison pending the court’s direction.
Today’s court session is expected to lay the groundwork for the formal plea-taking, after which the trial process will commence.
