Kenyan rapper Stivo Simple Boy has announced his intentions to join active politics, with plans to contest for a Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat in Nairobi’s Kibra constituency during the 2027 General Election.
The Freshi Barida hitmaker shared the news in a recent interview with SPM Buzz, where he expressed concern over rising youth unemployment and alleged mismanagement of bursary funds in his community. Though he did not name the specific ward he will target, Kibra constituency comprises five: Sarang’ombe, Laini Saba, Makina, Lindi, and Woodley/Kenyatta Golf Course.
“I want to be a voice for the voiceless,” Stivo said. “Many young people in Kibra are jobless. They don’t receive bursaries. I want to bring change.”
The rapper’s foray into politics, he explained, is driven by the frustration he sees among youth struggling with limited opportunities and poor access to education support. He believes local leaders have failed to address these challenges effectively, and he hopes to offer a fresh alternative.
“If given the chance, I will ensure that bursaries are distributed fairly and job opportunities are created. My mission is to work for the people, not for personal gain,” he added.
Stivo also cited Mumias East MP Peter Salasya as a role model, applauding his grassroots approach to leadership. “People say politics is dirty, but it depends on who’s in charge. Salasya is a good example of what it means to lead with heart.”
