The Amani National Congress (ANC) and the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) have merged to form a unified political entity tentatively identified as the United Democratic Alliance Party.
In the announcement by UDA chairperson Cecily Mbarire, the new party will undergo rebranding to incorporate ANC’s identity symbols, logo, imagery and topography.
"Appreciating and reflecting on the shared and the common ideals of the primacy of economic empowerment, peace and development, the UDA party and ANC have today merged as a one known as the UDA party that is also going to change name and the branding," said Mbarire.
The merger has also seen changes in UDA leadership with Lamu Governor Issa Timamy being designated the Deputy Party Leader.
Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba has been appointed as the Deputy Secretary General and Kelvin Lunani as the Vice Chairman.
The merger consequently folds ANC which was previously led by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
