Kenya African National Union (KANU) Chairman Hon. Gideon Moi has called on the Standard Group to adopt a more conciliatory stance toward the government, signalling a shift in tone following KANU’s new understanding with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
In a statement titled “Back to Business”, Moi acknowledged that he had previously urged the media house to take a bold stand in holding the government accountable and defending the public interest. However, he said the political environment had changed, necessitating a different approach.
“With the new understanding between KANU and UDA, we are entering a season of cooperation aimed at uniting the country and advancing a shared development agenda,” Moi said.
He urged the Standard Group to “stand down from its previous posture of heightened criticism toward the government,” describing the moment as one that called for “responsible engagement” to promote national stability, reconciliation, and progress.
While affirming that press freedom remains essential, Moi said it should now serve “the higher purpose of national cohesion and constructive dialogue.”
“Let us move forward together, building bridges, not walls,” he concluded.
