Kenyan environmental activist Truphena Muthoni has criticized some corporate brands for failing to honor their promises of support following her record- breaking 72- hour tree hugging.
Speaking in an interview, Truphena said some individuals and companies honored their commitments while others failed despite making public promises.
“Most of those promises were true, but some of them, especially those who are in the economic sector, were really lying. Some of them you can even search on Google and find their names appearing,” Truphena said.
Truphena’s frustration was clear, though she has chosen not to dwell on them, as she said she is focusing on how to build an environmental activism with mental health awareness that will reconnect people with nature in a way that can be both healing and transformative.
She disclosed that she did not receive a cash reward of about Ksh 388,200 from her TikTok, which she is yet to get. Truphena’s 72-hour tree hugging was more than a record; it was a call to action.
She hopes her achievements will be fulfilled by advocating more about the environment and nature, as this action requires constituency, accountability and courage, not empty promises.
