Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu accused a section of Nyeri leaders of turning against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, claiming that they were then advancing a divisive political agenda in the Mount Kenya region.

Speaking on Thursday during an interview on Citizen TV, Nyutu said Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and former MP Ngunjiri Wambugu no longer supported Gachagua, suggesting that their recent political moves appeared to serve “someone else’s interests.”

Nyutu stated that “Governor Kahiga and Ngunjiri Wambugu were no longer with Gachagua that it was clear they were doing someone’s bidding, and that they should carry their own cross.”

The senator further claimed that there had been an alleged plan to incite ethnic tensions following the news of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s death, but that the scheme had reportedly been thwarted.

‘Governor Kahiga and Ngunjiri Wambugu no longer support Gachagua; it seems they are doing someone’s bidding, and he should carry his own cross,’Nyutu said.

Nyutu alleged that when the sad news of Raila’s passing had broken, there had been people plotting to mobilize youth to celebrate and spark animosity between two communities, and that the plot had been exposed, adding that “it now seemed that was exactly what Governor Kahiga was trying to revive.”

He urged leaders from the Mount Kenya region to avoid divisive politics and instead focus on unity, warning that any attempts to exploit the nation’s grief for political gain would be strongly resisted.
